Teachers have enough to do already, but it just seems that they can’t let some things go. They are always adding things to their “must do” list, but nothing ever gets taken off. So, here are some things teachers can stop doing.
5. Taking papers home to grade — (Do you really think you’re a better teacher when you ignore your family, spouse, interests, and soul?)
4. Making copies — send it to them via email, project it onto the wall (How many hours are spent trying to fix a paper jam? How many millions of pounds of paper do schools use in a year?)
3. Filing papers you’ll never use again — (Teachers keep everything, don’t they?)
2. Lecturing the entire class for something one person did — (We’ve all done it, and it never works.)
1. Grading papers that students aren’t even going to look at later and learn from. (What does a grade mean if the student isn’t learning?)
The teacher who has the courage to stop doing these things has a chance to focus on the really important stuff.
